State Venues

The State Theatre offers a wide selection of rooms and event spaces located in either the theatre proper or the theatres lower levels. Listed below are further room descriptions and location guides to assist you in selecting the perfect venue for your next function or event.




Grand Assembly
The Grand Assembly is accessed via the theatre’s main entrance and flows into a large atrium space flanked by grand marble staircases, which leads up to the Dress Circle vestibule and gallery. Located on the ground floor and regularly used for feature film production, this remarkable and historic space is characterised by a lavish mirrored dome and uniquely ornate fixtures and fittings.

Auditorium
Leading from the Grand Assembly, the 2000 seat Auditorium is the heart and soul of the State Theatre. Since its construction in 1929, it has captivated generations with its amazing architecture and sublime design. The Auditorium houses the famous Koh-I-Nor cut crystal chandelier, which is the second largest on earth, weighing over four tonnes.

Stage
To reveal the true majesty of the theatre and to view the Auditorium from a performers perspective, why not consider the stage area for your next event. The stage area has been used to host sumptuous and visually spectacular functions, which provides guests with a rare and long remembered experience.
Function capacities can be further increased with the addition of stage extension, which are available at an extra cost.

Dress Circle Gallery
Leading up from the Grand Assembly via the Italianate marble staircase, the Dress Circle area is located on theatre’s second floor. Decorated in rich warm tones, the vestibule area leads further into the Dress Circle art gallery. The gallery features significant works by diverse Australian artists such as William Dobell and Charles Wheeler.

College, Pioneer and VIP Room’s

Located within the Auditorium, the College, the Pioneer and ViP rooms continue the inspirational design themes of the theatres architect Henry White. Both rooms offer an eclectic mixture of Gothic, Italian and Art deco design to produce a unique alternative for a intimate function or event.

State I & State II
With dedicated access via Market Street, the State I & II rooms are located on the first level of the theatres lower level. These facilities have recently undergone a total transformation into a leading edge “Event Suite”. Both rooms offer technologically advanced facilities designed to meet the exacting standards of today’s meeting and conference market.


Reel Room
Located on the first level of the theatres lower level, the Reel Room is a purpose built 56 seat Theatrette. The Reel Room offers clients the ability to project films and presentations in a variety of formats including 35mm, data, DVD, digital & video projection all in the comfort of high backed “cinema” style seating.

Statement Lounge • Bar
Located on the second level of the theatres lower levels, the Statement bar offers stylish facilities accentuated by luxurious sofas and banquette seating to evoke images of the jazz age of the 1930s. Statement is an ideal room for a wide variety of pre or post function and event uses or simply in its own right.
